Premiere: STEREOMETRIX ‘Freezone’
On ‘Brutaż-14’, STEREOMETRIX serves up five cuts of intimate dubby trance indebted to the afterhours sound of Western Ukraine and Belarus
Belarusian DJ and producer STEREOMETRIX will release a new EP via Warsaw’s Brutaż label next month. Listen exclusively to ‘Freezone’ below.
The five-tracker is the latest in a string of releases on the label from Ukraine-Belarusian artists who have found refuge, both creatively and otherwise, in the Polish capital, such as Shjva’s scintillating ‘Brutaż-12’.
STEREOMETRIX serves up five cuts of his own intimate dubby trance, imbued with minimal club textures and downtempo atmospheres. From the dark but delicate hum of ‘Freezone’ – with its wily kick drums and aqueous wobble – to the dense, industrial weight of ‘Alligators’, it’s a project that captures the anxiety of living in transitory places while seeking out the small pockets of joy within them. On ‘Phuture’, the Warsaw-based DJ leans into the full trance afterparty sound of Lutsk, Ukraine with soaring synths and an ecstatic choral encore, before signing off in suitably bleepy style with ‘Phone Number’.
Shedding light on his creative process, STEREOMETRIX shared: “When working on a freehand tattoo, I'm slowly immersing myself in a microcosm of strange flora and fauna. I feel like I'm inventing a universe of my own, whilst curiously waiting for it to unfold organically in front of my eyes. My music production follows a similar path.”
The producer is also part of Penumbrum, a Warsaw club night and label uniting like-minded artists from western Ukraine and Belarus, including Vladimir Gnatenko and Ilya Semashkevich. Expect to hear plenty more stellar electronica from this city within a city soon.
The record will be available digitally and on vinyl (via One Eye Witness) from 8th October. It will be released digitally on 9th October. Pre-order the EP via Bandcamp here.
