Premiere: Sonido Berzerk ‘Don’t Call Me’
Ten Toes Turbo co-founder Sonido Berzerk puts Veracruz-via-Chicago juke spin on Madison Avenue’s ‘Don’t Call Me Baby’
Sonido Berzerk returns with the fifth instalment of his ‘Ricky's Jukes Stash’ EP series this month. Listen to the Madison Avenue-sampling ‘Don’t Call Me’ below.
The Mexican Ten Toes Turbo label co-founder dishes up five more cuts of Veracruz-via-Chicago club fire, once again spotlighting the irresistible vintage of juke/footwork coming out of his home country. It’s a scene the prolific producer and DJ has been a key part of since 2012, through his label and party series with Ma Fuego, and as part of the Juke MX collective.
Like other recent Ten Toes Turbo releases – from the likes of Portuguese producer Mujipuki and Hiroshima’s CRZKNY – ‘Ricky's Jukes Stash Vol.5’ is a work of frenzied playfulness, as razor sharp as it is colourful and light in its mixing of juke with elements of dubstep, footwork and house. ‘Don’t Call Me’ is the case in point: its pounding 4/4 kicks reinforce an earworm vocal sample from Madison Avenue’s 1999 disco-house hit of the (almost) same name, while hazy keys and chimes balance the heavy with the hypnotic. Absolute banger.
‘Ricky's Jukes Stash Vol. 5’ will be released this Friday 16th June. Pre-order it here.
