Premiere: Azu Tiwaline ‘Ethereal Tribes’
Azu Tiwaline and Shinigami San co-curate a compilation of Tunisian electronic music Air Texture
New York’s Air Texture label will release the latest instalment of its ‘Place’ charity compilation series this month, co-curated by Azu Tiwaline and Shinigami San, focusing on electronic music artists from Tunisia. Listen to Tiwaline’s ‘Ethereal Tribes’ below.
Out on 24th March, 'Place: Tunisia' is described as "an invitation to have a deep dig into electronic Tunisia" and brings together a cross-generational cadre of house, techno and experimental electronic producers, multi-instrumentalists, film composers and more "to offer a large view of the ensemble of the different electronic approaches in Tunisia".
Featuring contributions from artists including Root, Briki, Skander Jaïbi, SKNDR, Hedi Fahem and others, including Tiwaline and Shinigami San themselves, all proceeds from the 23-track release will go to local environmental organisation La Ruche, based in the south Tunisian city of Tozeur, which supports local human rights, women's rights, and environmental protection.
‘Ethereal Tribes’ is typically atmospheric cut from the Livity Sound affiliate, whose blend of organic percussion, subwise depth and cyborg vocal samples pulls you into a shadowy sonic space. It’s strange, a little uncanny, and properly absorbing stuff, ideal for early doors dancefloor mood-building.
‘Place: Tunisia' follows previous editions of the series focusing on music from Nairobi, France, The Netherlands, Colombia, Georgia and more. It will be released on 24th March. Pre-order it here.
