UK festival KALLIDA is throwing an emergency fundraiser party this week in response to a recently passed bill that criminalises anyone who identifies as LGBTQ+ in Uganda.  The event takes place tomorrow (27th April) at Unit 58 in Tottenham, London. Remaining tickets are available to buy here.

Ugandan DJs Kampire (pictured above) and Authentically Plastic are set to play the event, as well as London artist LCY. Also on the bill are Donnie Sunshine (Queer Bruk), Joe Cotch, Nowt, DJ Mapengo (Critical Youth), Rabz (WET) and KALLIDA's resident DJs.

All proceeds from the fundraising event will go directly to the LGBTQ+ community in Uganda. Money raised will help cover costs including bail for imprisoned LGBTQ+ people, emergency accommodation, as well as legal and medical fees. Those who can't attend KALLIDA's event tomorrow can donate to the UGANDA LGBTQ+ Emergency Fund here.

Authentically Plastic was named as DJ Mag’s Artists to Watch in 2023The DJ, producer, and co-founder of Kampala’s ANTI-MASS collective spoke to DJ Mag in January about wanting their music to have “friction, of music, rhythms, cultures coming into close contact, into conflict”.

Meanwhile, LCY recently announced their new EP, 'He Hymns', on fabric Originals.

KALLIDA is the team behind the UK boutique festival that returns this August, which has previously hosted a variety of Ugandan artists on its festival line-up including Kampire and Otim Alpha. LCY is set to perform at this year's festival, which takes place at a secret North Devon location on 18th and 19th August.
